After the Grand Canyon we stayed on historic Route 66. We found a little piece of Americana called the Wigwam Motel. We slept in two actual stucco wigwams. (no photos on my camera though) In front of each room they parked an old car. Some cars were buicks some studebakers. Erin was horrified when we pulled in but warmed up to it.
We left the warmth of the Wigwams for the petrified forest. We learned about what the river valley was like 800 years ago. When the Native Americans found it. We also learned what it takes for trees to become petrified, it is not easy!!! But it was pretty.
The photos are not uploading right now. I will try later. We are off to breakfast and then off to the airport. We should be back at BWI by 11:15 this evening. Wish us uneventful travels!!

Monday
Canyon
On Monday we left the Grand Canyon. We stopped at almost every overlook and I was amazed by how different every view was. The last stop is Desertview. From there we could see the East edge of the Grand Canyon. On this drive we also saw a coyote. He was very calmly waiting to cross the road.

Update from Cottonwood
How have five days gone by already? We have seen SO much our heads are still spinning. Today we are off the the Verde Canyon Railway and the Blazin' M Chuckwagon dinner review. Before the train we plan to stop at Montezuma Castle National Monument--They have the remains of pre-Columbian cliff dwellings.
Here is a photo from our first day. This was our first view of the Canyon from Yavapai Observation Station. There are many photos to choose from, we have six cameras between the five of us. Not bad for a first look!!!!

And we are off!
Ready for take-off
We made it! Here are some photos from the first day. The most memorable event (not documented with photos) was the vomiting boy in the aisle. He paused at Adam's chair, heaving and breathing heavily. His father shooed him on and three rows later he proceeded to vomit on the man sitting on the aisle. I pushed my call button as everyone sat with their mouths open in disbelief. The annoyed flight attended came SLOWLY up the aisle, looking for the offender. As she approached the boy, and the vomit, her faced turned to the same look of disbelief. She asked the boy where his BURP BAG was, but it was obviously too late, he was not going to be burping any more! When the boy was stowed in the back cabin she came back with rubber gloves to clean the floor. She then was alerted to the man with the dirty shirt, hair, arm and seat. Then they went in to action. Gloved flight attendants came from every direction, warm rags were flying everywhere, the man's shirt came slowly from his back, trying to avoid any debris on it. Meanwhile Aidan and I are sitting next to the aforementioned boy's brother. He is twirling his gum, touching our crayons and pencils--I am thinking sanitizing wipes and airborne cocktails for everyone.
I spent the day with great travelers and we have all had some sleep and are ready for our drive north. We hope to be to the Grand Canyon in time to unload the car, find our coats and sit with the sunset. Sunday morning we plan to do it again.
More info to follow with the next internet connection!
