One little text message means so much!

She is safe and tired!!  She sent two pictures in text messages this morning.  One of her new room and one of the view from her new room.  I feel better already!!

Living with your Heart outside your body

She did it!  Erin left for her semester in France last night.  There were many tears and lots of hugs and a little bit of an empty feeling as she slipped from our sight.  The rest of us made our way home and had a quiet dinner, just the four of us at the table again.  Adam and I have spent the last 21 years preparing for this.  I am realizing that we prepared her but I forgot to prepare myself!  So we have 5 month to get it together!

Extreme Makeover-Home Addition in Poolesville

A family of 15 is getting new digs near Poolesville

We took a bus from the Golf course near our house to the construction site. On Monday they took a bulldozer to the old house. I guess if you have a 600 person construction crew you don't have a ladder in your front hall for a couple of weeks. They were doing finish work today while we were there. The reveal is Sunday. We will be in Williamsburg so won't get to wait in line at the golf course for a couple of hours to catch the one bus that holds 31 people. Below is a link to the family story. Great summer adventure #2. xoxo K

Monday and Tuesday

After the Grand Canyon we stayed on historic Route 66. We found a little piece of Americana called the Wigwam Motel. We slept in two actual stucco wigwams. (no photos on my camera though) In front of each room they parked an old car. Some cars were buicks some studebakers. Erin was horrified when we pulled in but warmed up to it.

We left the warmth of the Wigwams for the petrified forest. We learned about what the river valley was like 800 years ago. When the Native Americans found it. We also learned what it takes for trees to become petrified, it is not easy!!! But it was pretty.

The photos are not uploading right now. I will try later. We are off to breakfast and then off to the airport. We should be back at BWI by 11:15 this evening. Wish us uneventful travels!!

Monday

the East edge of the Grand with one of the few guard rails--

Canyon

On Monday we left the Grand Canyon. We stopped at almost every overlook and I was amazed by how different every view was. The last stop is Desertview. From there we could see the East edge of the Grand Canyon. On this drive we also saw a coyote. He was very calmly waiting to cross the road.
